On Thursday, October 23, border guards in Krāslava Municipality detained a Latvian non-citizen for transporting persons who had illegally crossed the state border.
After verifying the received information, a border guard shift in Svariņi Parish stopped a Renault Megane Scenic taxi with yellow taxi license plates and a taxi identification sign mounted on the vehicle’s roof. During the inspection of the vehicle, the border guards found four persons of Asian origin inside without valid travel documents, valid visas and residence permits.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the “carrier” under Section 2851(2) of the Criminal Law for ensuring two or more persons the possibility to reside illegally in the Republic of Latvia.
Four persons were prevented from illegally crossing the state border in accordance with Section 4 of the State Border Guard Law.
