From December 14th -16th, border guards seized more than 197000 smuggled cigarettes in Augšdaugava Municipality and in Kraslava Municipality.
On Tuesday, December 14th, the border guards of the State Border Guard of Daugavpils Administration in Augšdaugava Municipality approximately 150 metres far away from the river Daugava on the forest road stopped a Volkswagen Golf brand car and detained members of the organized group - three persons who carried out an illegal transportation of tobacco products. During the car inspection, the border guards found out eight packs of smuggled cigarettes ,,Premjer”.
In total the border guards took out 57600 cigarttes ,,Premjer” with Belorusian excise duty stamps.
Criminal proceedingss have been initiated regarding smuggling in an organized group and to thr large extent in accordance with Section 190, Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Law.
Detention has been applied to all detained persons by decision of the Investigating judge.
On Wednesday, December 15th, the border guards of Daugavpils Administration in Augšdaugava Municipality found a raft in Daugava river, which crossed the State Border while floating along the river. Looking at it the border guards found that the raft consistedseveral boxes bounded together in white agro-foil. They also identified 100 000 ,,NZ Gold” cigarettes with Belorusian excise duty stamps.
On Thursday, December 16th carrying out areal surveillance on the State Border the border guards of the State Border Guard Aviation Administration in cooperation with border guards of the Daugavpils Administration focused another another raft in the Daugava river. In Kraslava parish the border guards found swimminf flippers and raft which as before consisted four boxes bounded together in white agro-foil. They identified 40000 ,,NZ GOLD” cigarettes with Belorusian excise duty stamps.
In such cases two criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding smuggling on a large quantities in accordance with Section 190, Paragraph3 of the Criminal Law.
