On Monday, July 21, two persons were detained for transporting persons who had illegally crossed the state border.
While providing support to border guards, officials of the State Police in Rundēni Parish, Ludza Municipality, on the P49 road, stopped an Audi A6 vehicle driven by a third-country national. Another third-country national was seated nearby. During the inspection of the vehicle, several persons ran out of it. Border guards detained one person near the vehicle, and, following search efforts, six more persons of Asian origin were found without valid travel documents, visas, or residence permits.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the driver and the seating nearby passenger under Article 285(3¹) of the Criminal Law for the illegal transportation of persons across the state border, if it has been committed during enhanced mode of operation of the border guarding system.
Seven persons were stopped from illegally crossing the state border in accordance with Section 4 of the State Border Guard Law.
