As of 17th April 2024 a State Border Guard helicopter and its crew started participation in the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) Joint Operation “Poseidon 2024”, providing aerial surveillance of the Greek-Turkish maritime border and support to the Greek law enforcement Authorities, including participation in search and rescue operations at sea.
The aim of the Joint Operation "Poseidon 2024" is to strengthen the external maritime border surveillance, using Member States' technical means and experts, in order to reduce the pressure of illegal migration at Greece's external maritime borders.
The State Border Guard helicopter and crew are fully prepared to perform tasks over the sea, as well as to make patrols in the dark part of the day using night vision equipment. The helicopter's equipment allows to carry out search and rescue operations and other tasks in difficult meteorological conditions, at any time of the day or night, over land or sea.
