Yesterday, September 12, in Krāslava district, the State Police detained a group of 4 illegal immigrants and a person, who led them - an Azerbaijani citizen, while three more illegal immigrants were detained in Lithuania

On Tuesday evening, in Bērziņi Municipality, 2 Syrian and 2 Indian citizens, who had previously illegally crossed the Latvian-Belarusian border and were followed by the Police, a Toyota Prius and its driver, an Azerbaijani citizen, who was providing transportation for the illegal immigrants, were detained. In order to detain the car, law enforcement officials had to repeatedly use their service firearms, firing targeted shots at the tyres of the car.

A second car, carrying four more illegal immigrants, was detained in Lithuania. The driver lost control of the car, when the car followed, and crashed. A passenger of the car, one of the illegal immigrants, died as a result of the accident.

According to the regulatory framework established by the enhanced border guarding system, the detained border violators are returned to the country of departure.
