On Sunday, October 5, 31 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 10388 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 25 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 52 offenders at external borders and within the country. 30 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

at the “Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Vietnam leaving the country, who presented to border guards a forged South Korean citizen's passport, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents and concealing one’s identity.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 15 foreigners 

at the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the “Riga” Airport Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to five citizens of Moldova, three – of Russia, two – of Ukraine, one – of Russia,  one – of Romania and one – of Belarus due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Russia and one – of Kazakhstan were detected at the Terehova and the Grebņeva Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, were not in possession of valid travel document). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 5 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point two citizens of Latvia departing for Great Britain, whose travel documents were not valid for travelling to Great Britain, one citizen of Latvia departing for Ireland and one – for Turkey, who were not in possession of valid travel documents, as well as one citizen of Latvia departing for Turkey, who was prohibited to leave the country, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 4 persons – three citizens of Estonia and one – of Lithuania.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 18 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Belarus, four – of Latvia, four – of Lithuania, two – of Romania, one – of Russia, one - of Moldova, one – of Serbia and one – of Uzbekistan.
