On Friday, October 31, 23 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 11215 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 30 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 51 offenders at external borders and within the country. 30 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

at the Port of Ventspils, while profiling vehicles and passengers on a ferry leaving Latvia for Sweden, one Latvian citizen, who presented to border guards a forged Driving Licence of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents. The forged documents were seized.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 13 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Tajikistan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to two citizens of Uzbekistan, as the foreigners could not justify the purposes and conditions of entry and stay; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to six citizens of Moldova and four – of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 10 foreigners

five citizens of Uzbekistan, three – of Tajikistan and two – of Moldova were detected at the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport the Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 8 persons - four citizens of Latvia, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of India and one – of Moldova.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 13 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Belarus, two – of Lithuania, two – of Serbia, one – of Latvia, one – of Russia, one – of Bulgaria, one – of Greek and one – of Uzbekistan.
