On Tuesday, October 14, 77 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 10731 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 26 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 44 offenders at external borders and within the country. 13 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted citizen of Latvia was detained

at the Port of Ventspils, while checking the list of passengers arriving by a ferry from Sweden, one Latvian citizen, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 4 foreigners 

at the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; as well as to one citizen of Belarus, one – of Russia and one – of Kazakhstan due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners

two citizens of Tajikistan, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Azrbaijan and one - of Belarus were detected at the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the “Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Tajikistan, was not initiated. The other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 9 persons – three citizens of Lithuania, two – of Russia, one – of Latvia, one – of Armenia, one – of Morocco and one – of Ukraine. 

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Moldova, four – of Lithuania, four - of Belarus, three – of Latvia, two – of Romania, one - of Estonia and one – of Uzbekistan.
