On Wednesday, October 30, during the 24th International Border Police Conference, organized by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX), Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, and Commander of the Border Guard Forces of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, Major General Ruslan Mirzayev, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia and Border Guard Forces of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Memorandum is intended to promote cooperation between Latvian and Uzbek Border Guard authorities within their competence, namely inter-agency cooperation in the fight against illegal immigration, smuggling of persons, smuggling of radioactive materials, prohibited goods and objects, other potential threats to state border security, cooperation in the field of border crossing points operation, international cooperation and international programs, as well as other issues of common interest.
