From 3 to 4 October, General Guntis Pujāts, Chief of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia, met with Major General Anatoly Lappo, Chairman of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

 

During the visit, the Latvian and Belarusian delegations exchanged information on the situation at the Latvian-Belarusian state border, as well as forecasts for the situation development, discussed co-operation against cross-border threats as well as issues of bilateral and multilateral co-operation, including join action in the implementation of joint financial projects and implementation of the Joint Action Plan for 2019 of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia and the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

During the meeting the Opoļi Border Guarding Unit of the Ludza Board of the State Border Guard was visited with the aim to familiarize with the infrastructure of the State Border Strip along the Latvian-Russian border, the tasks, competencies, activities and best practices of the Ludza Board of the Border Guard.

During the visit, the minutes of the meeting of Heads of the Border Guard authorities of Latvia and Belarus was also signed.

The visit is organized on the basis of the Joint Action Plan for 2019 signed by the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia and the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

The State Border Guard cooperates with the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus on the basis of "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on the Latvian-Belarussian Border Regime" signed in Belarus on April 10, 2013; "Protocol on Cooperation between the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia and the State Border Guard Committee of the Republic of Belarus" and "Protocol on Mutual Cooperation in the Field of Information Exchange on the Situation Regarding the Security Threats at the Latvian-Belorussian borders between the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia and the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus" signed in Belarus on April 10, 2014.
