On Friday, May 23, 96 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3718 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 12 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 50 offenders at external borders and within the country. 15 trespassers were detected at external borders. Among them, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners.

At the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki and „Riga” Airport Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Great Britain, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; to one citizen of Uzbekistan, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay; to one citizen of Uzbekistan and one – of Belarus, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia, one – of Ukraine, one – of Romania and one – of Belarus  due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 18 persons -  four citizens of Cameroon, three – of Lithuania, two – of Sudan, two – of Togo, two – of Guinea, one – of Estonia, one – of Central African Republic, one – of Congo, one – of Senegal and one – of Somali.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 17 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Moldova, three – of Belarus, three – of Kazakhstan, two – of Latvia, two – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Lithuania and one – of Germany.
