On Saturday, May 17, 98 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3337 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 12 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 43 offenders at external borders and within the country. 16 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

During vehicle and passenger profiling at the Port of Ventspils, one citizen of Lithuania leaving Latvia by ferry for Sweden, who presented to border guards a forged Driving Licence, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal proceedings.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the Pāternieki, the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points as well as at the Port of Riga entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova and one – of USA, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to one citizen of India, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Ukraine, one – of Germany, one - of Moldova and one – of Russia (a seafarer) due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure. Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship’s captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port, the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Uzbekistan was detected at the Grebņeva Border Control Point, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons – two citizens of Estonia, two – of Somali and one – of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Russia, four - of Belarus, three – of Latvia, three – of Moldova, one – of Estonia, one – of Bulgaria, one – of Romania, one – of Ukraine, one – of Uzbekistan, one – of Germany and one – of China.
