On Thursday, May 15, 67 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3198 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 12 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 56 offenders at external borders and within the country. 31 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

at the Pāternieiki Border Control Point, one citizen of Uzbekistan leaving Latvia with a heavy goods vehicle and a trailer, who presented to border guards forged Uzbekistan Roadworthiness Test Certificates, was detected. Person was held administratively liable. The forged documents were seized.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 14 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points as well as at the Port of Ventspils entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to six citizens of Russia (one - a seafarer), four citizens of Belarus and four – of Moldova due to security reasons. Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship’s captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port, the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners

two citizens of Turkey, one - of Uzbekistan and two - of Tajikistan were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by the citizen of Turkey was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 11 persons – six citizens of Lithuania, one – of Sudan, one – of Syria, one – of Tajikistan, one – of Ukraine and one - of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 14 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Moldova, one – of Lithuania, one – of Belgium, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Norway, one – of Serbia, one – of Ukraine and one – of Germany.
