On Saturday, March 23, 4 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 635 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, 0 persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 5 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 28 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

13 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

At the Pāternieki Border Control Point, one citizen of Kazakhstan entered Latvia with lorry and trailer, who presented to border guards a forged Montenegro International Vehicle Insurance policies, was detected. The person was subjected to administrative liability. The forged document was seized within the framework of the administrative proceedings.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at the Grebņeva Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to four citizens of Ukraine due to security reasons. While at the Pāternieki Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Turkey, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit and to one citizen of Belarus, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigners

one citizen of Chile was detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by the citizen of Chile was not initiated.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 15 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Kazakhstan, one - of Moldova, one – of Ukraine and one – of Uzbekistan.
