On Wednesday, March 20, 23 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 584 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, 0 persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 5 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 40 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

23 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 4 foreigners

at the Grebņeva Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; while at the Pāternieki Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova and one – of Belarus due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 14 foreigners

10 citizens of Uzbekistan, one - of Russia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Kirgizstan and one – of Moldova were detected at the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki and „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by six citizens of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons – two citizens of Uzbekistan, one - of Russia, one – of Estonia and one – of India.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 12 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Latvia, three - of Belarus, two – of Kazakhstan, one – of Russia,

one – of Lithuania, one – of Kirgizstan and one – of Serbia.
