From February 16 to 20, the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, and the Deputy Chief of the State Border Guard (for operational management matters), General Ivars Ruskulis, went on an official visit to Ukraine, where they participated in an expert meeting and delivered donations to their Ukrainian colleagues.

During the meeting, experts from border guarding institutions engaged in an open and professional dialogue, exchanging experiences on the use of technical solutions and specialized systems for detecting and preventing illegal migration. This included the application of electronic systems, electronic information-gathering tools, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and counter-UAV measures in border surveillance. Participants also shared up-to-date experience regarding new methods and techniques of illegal migration, as well as their timely detection and mitigation. In the discussions, participants emphasized mutual transparency, a practical approach, and a shared interest in improving solutions, all of which contribute to more effective day-to-day institutional work.

During the visit, the leadership of the State Border Guard also met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine, Andrejs Pildegovičs, and discussed strengthening cooperation within the broader context of international collaboration, as well as potential future joint development directions to enhance border security and support Ukraine.

In addition to the official program, the Chief of the State Border Guard delivered donations to Ukrainian colleagues, collected through the initiative of State Border Guard officials and employees, demonstrating professional solidarity and practical support. The Chief handed over four generators, three 3D printers with the necessary materials for their operation, various household and hygiene items provided by State Border Guard personnel, as well as donations organized by the NGO “Tavi draugi” and seven drones from the “Uzņēmēji mieram” fund.

The delegation of the State Border Guard carried out an official visit to Ukraine to strengthen cooperation and promote practical experience exchange with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in the areas of preventing illegal migration and the use of border surveillance technologies.

The visit demonstrates the State Border Guard’s consistent approach to international cooperation, focusing on concrete results, more effective solutions, and long-term contributions to combating illegal migration and ensuring the security of the European Union’s external borders.
