On Wednesday, September 10, border guards, in cooperation with officials of the State Police in Preiļi Municipality, detained a Latvian non-citizen for transporting persons who had illegally crossed the state border.

After verifying the information provided by the border guards, officials of the State Police in Rušona Parish detected a Volvo XC90 vehicle driven by a Latvian non-citizen. During the inspection of the vehicle, it was found that there were three persons of Asian origin in the vehicle without valid travel documents, visas, or residence permits.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the “currier” under Section 2851(2) of the Criminal Law for ensuring two or more persons the possibility to reside illegally in the Republic of Latvia.

Three persons were prevented from illegally crossing the state border in accordance with Section 4 of the State Border Guard Law.
