On Monday, January 1, no one person was stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 13863 persons have been stopped during this year.

A total 428 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On January 1, officials of the State Border Guard detected 15 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

7 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted person was detained

the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia entered Latvia from Leeds, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 foreigners

at the Terehova Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Kirgizstan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit. One more citizen of Ukraine was banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Kazakhstan was detected at the Pāternieki Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons – two citizens of Lithuania and one – of Estonia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 5 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – two citizens of Kirgizstan, one – of Moldova, one – of Tajikistan and one – of Uzbekistan.
