During the period from 5 February 2026 to 6 February 2026, Frontex representatives visited the State Border Guard of Latvia.

The purpose of the visit was to visit the structural units of the State Border Guard of Latvia and get acquainted with the State Border Guard of Latvia technical means participating in the multifunctional maritime operation “MMO Baltic Sea”, as well as to discuss practical issues related to the implementation of the mixed crew project. The project aims to practically test integration of Frontex Standing Corps Coast Guard officers as full crew members on Member States’ coastal patrol vessels involved in Frontex joint operations.

During the visit, the Frontex representatives visited the structural units of the SBG Ventspils Board and the SBG Riga Board, which ensure border control at the sea borders, as well as visited the SBG Headquarters, where a debriefing meeting took place. Within the framework of the cooperation, representatives of Frontex and the State Border Guard of Latvia also visited the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC RIGA) of the Coast Guard Service.

Frontex representatives appreciated the contribution of the State Border Guard of Latvia to the multifunctional maritime operation “MMO Baltic Sea” and the commitment to participate in the implementation of the mixed crew project.
