On 29th October 2025, a rotation of experts of the State Border Guard of Latvia was carried out within the framework of Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency 11th operational period. After rotation, 63 Latvian officers, including 5 dog handlers with service dogs, will continue service duties in Estonia, Poland, Serbia, Romania, Albania, Greece, Italy, France, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and Georgia. Their task will be border surveillance, patrolling and obtaining operational information in close cooperation with colleagues from other European Union Member States.
On October 29, 2025, the State Border Guard coastal patrol boat “RK-30” with crew resume their deployment in the joint operation “Greece 2025” on the island of Lesvos, Greece. The coastal patrol boat will be carrying out patrolling and border surveillance of the Greek coastal border, strengthening regional security and providing support to Greece.
At the same time, 57 Frontex Standing Corps officers from Poland, Hungary, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, France, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Netherlands and the Portugal are deployed in the structural units of the State Border Guard of Latvia responsible for border checks and border surveillance, using off-road patrol vehicles, including Frontex vehicles, as well as three Frontex Mobile Surveillance Systems.
On 29 October, 2025, the Multipurpose Maritime Operation “MMO Baltic Sea 2025” (hereinafter – Operation), organised by the Frontex, the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), was finalised, involving in the patrolling the State Border Guard coastal patrol vessel “RĀNDA” and two coastal patrol boats “RK-28” and “RK-30”.
The Operation took place in the Baltic Sea from 11 June to 29 October, 2025 in the areas of responsibility of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland and Poland with the involvement of their vessels and personnel resources. The main objectives of the Operation were the control of illegal migration, the fight against cross-border crime at sea and the strengthening of cooperation in coast guard functions, including search and rescue operations at sea, maritime safety control, fisheries control and environmental protection.
The daily work of the State Border Guard of Latvia demonstrates Latvia’s commitment and practical support to Europe’s common security, helping to ensure order and security in those operational areas where it is most needed.
