On 18 February 2026, the State Border Guard carried out a personnel rotation within the framework of the 2nd operational period of Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. Following the rotation, 59 Latvian officers, including 4 dog handlers with service dogs, will continue performing their duties in Lithuania, Bulgaria, Greece, France, Estonia, Poland, Germany, Portugal, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Georgia, Moldova and North Macedonia.
Their tasks include external border surveillance, the provision of patrol activities, and the collection of operational information, in close cooperation with colleagues from other European Union Member States and the competent authorities of the host countries. This is the second State Border Guard rotation in the 2026 operational year, which began on January 21, 2026., ensuring Latvia’s continuous contribution to Frontex-coordinated operational activities and to strengthening the security of the European Union’s external borders.
The State Border Guard coastal patrol boat “RK-28” with crew continues deployment in the joint operation “Greece 2026” on the island of Lesvos, Greece and the State Border Guard offshore patrol vessel RK-12 “VALPAS” with crew since March 22, 2025, continues its participation in the joint operation “Greece 2026” in Crete, Greece. The coastal patrol boat and offshore patrol vessel will be carrying out patrolling and border surveillance of the Greek coastal border, strengthening regional security and providing support to Greece.
At the same time, 55 Frontex Standing Corps officers from Spain, Finland, Germany, Portugal, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, France and Norway, are deployed in the structural units of the State Border Guard of Latvia responsible for border checks and border surveillance, using off-road patrol vehicles, including Frontex vehicles, as well as three Frontex Mobile Surveillance Systems.
The daily work of the State Border Guard of Latvia demonstrates Latvia’s commitment and practical support to Europe’s common security, helping to ensure order and security in those operational areas where it is most needed.
