During the period from 27 January 2026 to 30 January 2026, Frontex Contingent 7 representatives visited the eastern border of Latvia. During the first visit, Contingent 7 Deputy Commander, Artur Zukowski, learned more about process of Joint Operation “Latvia 2026” and discussed aspects of cooperation with officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia and Frontex Standing Corps officers.

The purpose of this visit was to visit the operational area of the eastern border, to ensure direct communication with the deployed Frontex Standing Corps officers, to assess the operational situation, to identify support needs and to facilitate effective coordination between the parties involved in the framework of Joint Operation “Latvia 2026”.

Frontex Contingent 7 representatives also visited the structural units of the SBG Daugavpils Board, the SBG Ludza Board and the SBG Viļaka Board, which ensure the performance of border control functions at the eastern border and where the Frontex Standing Corps officers are deployed.

During the visit, the importance of close operational cooperation and the support to be provided by Frontex (human resources, technical means, technical equipment) was highlighted in view of the high migratory and security risks at the EU’s external land borders with the Russian Federation and Belarus. 

The Contingent 7 representatives appreciated the contribution of the State Border Guard of Latvia to the protection of the Europe’s external border and participation in various international activities.
