During the weekend, border guards prevented two cases of transporting persons who illegally crossed the state border and detained two persons.
On Saturday, June 14, in Pilda Parish, Ludza Municipality, on road P49, border guards in cooperation with Military Police officials, stopped a BMW 530D registered in Bulgaria, driven by a third-country national. While, on Sunday, June 15, in Pasiene Parish, Ludza Municipality, on road P52, border guards stopped a Ford Galaxy registered in Latvia, driven by a Latvian citizen. Upon inspecting the vehicles, in both cases it was found that there were three persons of Asian origin in the passenger compartments of each vehicle without valid travel documents, visas, or residence permits.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against both “carriers” under Article 285(1)2) of the Criminal Law for ensuring two or more persons the possibility to reside illegally in the Republic of Latvia.
All six persons were prevented from illegally crossing the state border in accordance with Section 4 of the State Border Guard Law.
