On Thursday, December 28, no one person was stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 13863 persons have been stopped during this year.

A total 428 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On December 28, officials of the State Border Guard detected 59 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

27 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 13 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova and one – of Great Britain, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel documents; as well as to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay. Six more citizens of Russia, three - of Ukraine and one – of Great Britain were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners

three citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Belarus and one - of Great Britain were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 4 foreigners – three citizens of Estonia and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 28 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 11 citizens of Belarus, three – of Kirgizstan, three – of Moldova, three – of Uzbekistan, two - of Latvia, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Georgia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Romania and one – of Serbia.
