On Sunday, December 24, no one person was stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 13863 persons have been stopped during this year.

A total 428 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On December 24, officials of the State Border Guard detected 50 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

32 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia and one – of Azerbaijan, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits. Two more citizens of Russia, two – of Moldova and two – of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 7 foreigners

two citizens of Belarus, two – of China, one – of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia and one – of Armenia were detected at the the Pāternieki and the Grebņeva Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 3 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, two citizens of Latvia departing for London and one citizen of Latvia departing for East Midlands without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 1 citizen of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 17 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, three – of Kirgizstan, three – of Uzbekistan, one – of Latvia, one – of Estonia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Poland and one – of Serbia.
