On Thursday, December 21, 2 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 13859 persons have been stopped this year.

A total 428 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On December 21, officials of the State Border Guard detected 39 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

19 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the Terehova and the Grebņeva Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. Six more citizens of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of was detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 4 persons – three citizens of Tajikistan and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 14 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, two – of Kirgizstan, two – of Uzbekistan, one - of

Russia, one – of Lithuania and one – of Serbia.
