On Thursday, December 18, 69 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 12022 persons have been stopped this year. 

 

A total 31 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 42 offenders at external borders and within the country. 17 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 citizen of Latvia wanted by the Police were detected

when checking the passenger list at the Port of Ventspils, a Latvian citizen entered from Sweden, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

 

at the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Azerbaijan, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of entry and stay; as well as to four citizens of Russia (one – is a seaman), two – of Belarus and one – of Moldova due to security reasons. Regarding the seaman, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship's captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in the port, the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Moldova and one - of Uzbekistan were detected at the Grebņeva and the Terehova Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 11 persons – five citizens of Algeria, two – of Iraq, two – of Pakistan, one – of Yemen and one - of Morocco.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 14 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Belarus, three – of Uzbekistan, two – of Lithuania, one – of Russia, one – of Georgia, one – of Moldova, one – of Serbia and one – of Ukraine.
