On Wednesday, December 17, 12 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 11953 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 31 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 42 offenders at external borders and within the country. 23 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 citizen of Latvia with forged documents was detected

while carrying out immigration control, in Augšdaugava Municipality, one citizen of Latvia, who presented to border guards a forged Polish Driving Licence, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents.

  • 2 citizens of Latvia wanted by the Police were detected

when checking the passenger list at the Port of Ventspils, a Latvian citizen entered from Sweden and at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one more citizen of Latvia, who are wanted by the Police, were detected. The persons were detained and handed over to officials of the Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Tajikistan, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of entry and stay; to one citizen of Tajikistan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; as well as to three citizens of Russia, two - of Moldova, one – of Kazakhstan and one – of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 7 foreigners

two citizens of Russia, two - of Uzbekistan, one – of USA, one – of Kyrgyzstan and one – of Tajikistan were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other person was subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the Pāternieki Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia leaving the country for Belarus, who was not in possession of valid travel document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 10 persons – two citizens of Bangladesh, two – of India, two – of Morocco, two – of Egypt, one - of Russia and one – of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 9 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – two citizens of Latvia, two – of Ukraine, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Moldova and one – of Tajikistan.
