On Tuesday, December 16, 1 person was stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 11941 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 31 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 56 offenders at external borders and within the country. 26 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 2 foreigners with forged documents were detected

at the “Riga” Airport Border Control Point, when carrying out immigration control, two citizens of Iraq, who presented forged British 1951 Convention passports to border guards, were detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents.

  • 1 citizen of Latvia wanted by the Police was detected

when checking the passenger list at the Port of Ventspils, a Latvian citizen entered from Germany, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner is subject to a ban on entering and staying in the territory of the Schengen Area countries; as well as to four citizens of Russia, three - of Belarus and one– of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 8 foreigners

five citizens of Russia, one – of Moldova, one – of Mexica and one – of Georgia were detected at the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, were not in possession of valid travel document). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the “Rīga” Airport Border Control Point, one minor citizen of Latvia, leaving the country for Turkey, who did not have notarized parental consent for the child’s independent departure from the country. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 18 persons – five citizens of Egypt, four – of Latvia, two - of Russia, two – of Estonia, two – of Ukraine, one – of Algeria, one – of India and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 12 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Belarus, two – of Estonia, two – of Moldova, one – of Russia, one – of Poland and one – of China.
