On Saturday, December 16, 6 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 13853 persons have been stopped this year.

A total 428 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On December 16, officials of the State Border Guard detected 36 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

18 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted person was detained

In the Ventspils Unit, one citizen of Latvia entered Latvia from Sweden, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to the officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 6 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Kazakhstan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as to one citizen of Kazakhstan, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Two more citizens of Ukraine and two – of Russia were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners

two citizens of Kazakhstan, two – of Belarus and one – of Great Britain were detected at the Pāternieki, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa or visa-free regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by the citizen of Great Britain was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 citizens of Estonia. 

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 15 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, two – of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Kirgizstan, one – of Serbia, one – of Ukraine and one – of Sweden.
