From 11 to 12 March 2026, the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, met with the Head of the European Migrant Smuggling Centre (hereinafter – EMSC), Seweryn Stopa, and the Senior Specialist of the EMSC, Daniel Dudek, in Riga and Daugavpils.
During the meeting, the Chief of the State Border Guard discussed with Europol representatives the prospects for further strengthening cooperation between the State Border Guard and the Europol’s EMSC, as well as raised the issue of the potential establishment of the position of State Border Guard Liaison Officer at Europol, which could promote closer operational cooperation and more efficient exchange of information between the parties involved. The Chief of the State Border Guard and Europol representatives also discussed the issue of attracting guest experts from Europol to organize training for officials of the State Border Guard's criminal investigation units. To gain insight into the current situation in the context of hybrid threats, representatives from the Europol visited the Daugavpils Board of the State Border Guard. There, the delegation got acquainted with the "Daugavpils" Detained Foreigners Accommodation Center of the Daugavpils Service of the State Border Guard Daugavpils Board, as well as the Silene Green Border Surveillance Unit and the Silene Border Control Point of the Daugavpils Board of the State Border Guard.
