Today, on January 4, 2023, Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Latvia V.E. Claudia Magdalena Njoo Pieterse.
During the meeting, issues related to the hybrid threat from the Belarusian authorities were discussed, drawing attention to the fact that the activities of the State Border Guard at the external borders of the European Union are carried out in the interests of the European Union as a whole.
There was also talk about a humanitarian approach towards the people used by the Belarusian authorities as a tool for the implementation of hybrid threats, emphasizing that each case is assessed individually and, in some cases, where human health or life is at risk, the persons are not banned from crossing the country's border on humanitarian grounds.
