On Monday, 10 January 2022, the border guards seized 10000 smuggled cigarettes in Daugavpils.
During the immigration control, officers of the Daugavpils Board of the State Border Guard stopped a car Seat Alhambra in Daugavpils, driven by a citizen of the Republic of Latvia for an inspection. While inspecting the vehicle, the border guard’s found one cardboard box full of smuggled cigarettes “Premjer” in its luggage compartment.
In overall, 10000 “Premjer” cigarettes with Belarussian excise stamps were seized.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated after Section 221 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Law (regarding the illegal movement of tobacco products, which was committed in large quantities) and regarding this type of criminal offence, the Law provides either deprivation of liberty for a period of up to two years, temporary deprivation of liberty, probation supervision, community service or with a fine.
