On Monday, March 29 officials of the State Border Guard in Naujene Parish of the Daugavpils Municipality detained one Latvian citizen for illegal movement of excise goods and seized 80 000 cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
During operational activities, border guards in the Naujene Parish, near the microraion “Križi” detained a man in a forest array who was moving packages with smuggled cigarettes.
In total, border guards seized 80 000 NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
Criminal proceedings were initiated pursuant to Article 221(3) of the Criminal Law (regarding the illegal manufacture (production), storage, movement or disposal of tobacco products, if it has been committed on a significant scale) and on Wednesday, March 31 were handed over in accordance with urgent procedures to the Prosecution Offices of Latgale Judicial Region for the commencement of criminal prosecution.
