On Thursday, May 13, in Demene Parish of the Daugavpils Municipality, border guards detained a Latvia citizen for illegal movement of excise goods and seized 21000 cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
When checking information regarding the illegal movement of excisable goods across the Belarus-Latvia border, the border guards in Demene Parish, about 5 km from the State border, detained a Latvian citizen who moved three packages wrapped in polyethylene film with smuggling cigarettes inside.
In total, border guards seized 20 000 NZ Gold cigarettes and 1 000 Winston cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
Criminal proceedings were initiated pursuant to Article 190(1) of the Criminal Law (for smuggling, if it has been committed on a large scale).
