On Wednesday, April 29, officials of the State Border Guard seized 60 thousand cigarettes "Premjer" with Belarusian excise stamps in Demene Parish, Daugavpils District.

 

The border guards, carrying out an inspection, identified a Renault Traffic car in Demene Parish, Šembergs Cemetery district. During an inspection of the car, the border guards found 2 boxes wrapped in black polyethylene film in its luggage compartment, while a further 4 boxes of cigarettes were hidden in a hole near the car.

In total, the border guards seized 60 thousand cigarettes "Premjer" with Belarusian excise stamps and, while continuing the criminal investigation activities, detained a Latvian citizen on suspicion of committing a crime in accordance with the Latvian Criminal Procedure Law.

Criminal proceedings were initiated pursuant to Article 221(1) of the Criminal Law (regarding illegal storage, movement (transportation) or disposal of tobacco products, if it has been committed on a significant scale.
