Robežsargi konstatē cigarešu nelikumīgas pārvietošanas gadījumu

On February 10, 2023, border guards stopped the illegal movement of tobacco products and detained one person in connection with cigarette smuggling.

On Friday, while checking information about the illegal movement of tobacco products in a hidden manner, State Border Guard officials stopped a VW Touran-branded car (driven by a Belarusian citizen born in 1985) on the P68 motorway (Silene Border Control Point - Daugavpils).

The person with the car was returned to the Silene Border Control Point for re-checking, during which, while scanning the car, suspicions arose about the presence of undeclared excise goods in the gas cylinders of the vehicle.

During the inspection, it was found that some holes are made in gas cylinders, which are masked with putty and cigarettes are hidden in them.

In total 37 640 cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were seized.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against a man born in 1985 in accordance with Section 190, Paragraph three of the Criminal Law (regarding smuggling, if it has been committed in large scale).
