On January 13, 2020 in the Naujene Civil Parish of Daugavpils District, officials of the State Border Guard detained a Latvian citizen for the illegal movement of excise goods and seized nearly 150 thousand cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.

 

On Thursday, carrying out operational information check border guards stopped a Mercedes Benz Viano car in Naujene Parish.

During an inspection of the car in its luggage compartment the border guards found 15 packages of cigarettes, wrapped in black polyethylene. In total, the border guards seized 149 920 "Prime Minister" cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.

As the illegal movement of tobacco products has been conducted to a significant extent, criminal proceedings were initiated. The man was recognised as a suspect and non-custodial security measures were applied to him.
