On Friday, August 1, border guards in Krāslava Municipality detained a Latvian citizen for transporting persons who had illegally crossed the state border.
The border guards stopped a Vauxhall Zafira vehicle, registered in the United Kingdom, in Robežnieki Parish, which was driven by a Latvian citizen. Upon inspecting the vehicle, it was found that inside were three persons of Asian origin without valid travel documents, visas, or residence permits.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the “carrier” under Article 285(1)2) of the Criminal Law for ensuring two or more persons the possibility to reside illegally in the Republic of Latvia.
Three persons were prevented from illegally crossing the state border in accordance with Section 4 of the State Border Guard Law.
