On Wednesday, January 24, in Zilupe Municipality the officers of the State Border Guard detained for intentional illegal crossing of the state border the second during this year group of Vietnamese citizens.
The border guards of the Opoļi Border Guarding Unit of the Ludza Board, while carrying out inspection of the state border, detected 5 persons, 2 men and 3 women, who were illegally crossing the Russian-Latvian state border on the railway and near the Zilupe Railway Border Control Point jumped from a moving train.
The criminal proceedings were initiated for intentional illegal border crossing committed by a group of persons. The State Border Guard is currently carrying out the necessary procedural steps to bring the offenders back to the competent authorities of the Russian Federation in accordance with the procedures specified in the intergovernmental agreements.
It should be noted, that this year 22 Vietnamese citizens illegally crossed the state border were detained, which is almost one-fifth of those who were detained last year. In 2017, 104 third-country nationals were detained for intentional crossing of the "green" border, among them the prevailing border violators (61) were Vietnamese citizens.
