In 2019, Latvian border guards and Russian Federation border guards carry out joint border operation "Kordon - 2019". Within the framework of the operation, 4 Vietnamese nationals were detained by officials of the State Border Guard for intentional illegal crossing of the state border in Ludza district at night from Sunday, August 4, to Monday, August 5.
Border guards, after checking the information provided by local residents, detected 3 persons who had previously crossed the border illegally in the Briģu parish of Ludza district.
Border guards detained 3 Vietnamese citizens and continued their search activities, resulting in the detention of one more Vietnamese national.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the detained persons under Article 284(2) for the intentional illegal crossing of the state border within a group of persons.
It should be noted that the number of persons, who crossed the border illegally, has decreased significantly this year, 30 third-country citizens were detained for illegal crossing of the "green" border this year, while during 2018 year 199 third- country citizens were detained.
