On Monday, November 23, border guards detained another bribe-giver at the Pāternieki Border Control Point - a citizen of Ukraine tried to bribe the border guards by offering a bribe of 100 USD.

In the course of their duties, the border guards detected a citizen of Ukraine, born in 1968, who wanted to cross the state border with a car and a trailer which had not undergone the national technical inspection of vehicles in accordance with the established procedure.

To cross the state border with a car and a trailer that had not undergone the national technical inspection of vehicles in accordance with the established procedure, the man offered a bribe of 100 USD to the border guards.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated for bribery pursuant to Section 323, Paragraph one of the Criminal Law and the criminal case file has been sent to the Kraslava District Prosecution Office with a proposal to initiate criminal prosecution against the suspected Ukrainian citizen. The person has been charged, an agreement on admission of guilt and punishment has been concluded. The case was sent to the court with a proposal to approve the agreement.

Bribery qualifies as a serious crime punishable in accordance with the Latvian Criminal Law by the deprivation of liberty for a period of up to five years, or temporary deprivation of liberty, or community service, or a fine in an amount of ten up to two thousand minimum wages specified in the Republic of Latvia.
