Friday, August 7, 12 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 9322 persons have been stopped this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 33 offenders at external borders and within the country. 12 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 2 foreigners with forged documents were detected

while carrying out immigration control, at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Pakistan, who presented to border guards a forged Pakistani citizen passport and a forged Italian residence permit, as well as one citizen of Pakistan, who presented to border guards a forged Estonian passport, were detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for using forged documents and concealing one’s identity.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 3 foreigners

at the Port of Ventspils, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia (a seafarer), as the foreigner is prohibited from entering and staying in the territory of the Schengen area countries; while at the Grebņeva Border Control Point entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Germany and one – of Cyprus due to security reasons. With regard to the seafarer, a letter of guarantee has been received from the ship’s captain stating that the person will remain on board the vessel during its stay in the port. The other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 2 foreigners

one citizen of Kyrgyzstan and one – of Uzbekistan were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 6 persons – two citizens of Russia, two – of Ukraine, one – of Estonia and one – of Izrael. 

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 15 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Belarus, three - of Latvia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Romania, one – of Finland, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Germany.
