Wednesday, August 5, 32 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 9206 persons have been stopped this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 32 offenders at external borders and within the country. 16 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Kyrgyzstan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as to one citizen of Turkey, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to four citizens of Russia (one is a seafarer), one – of Ukraine, one – of Romania, one – of Germany and one – of Kazakhstan due to security reasons. With regard to the seafarer, a letter of guarantee has been received from the ship’s captain stating that the person will remain on board the vessel during its stay in the port. The other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 4 foreigners

one citizen of Russia, one – of Uzbekistan, one – of ASV and one - of Great Britain were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by the citizen of Great Britain was not initiated. The other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

    at the Pāternieki Border Control Point, one minor citizen of Latvia departing from Latvia, who did not have parent's notarized consent for the child to leave the country, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for two persons – one citizen of Lithuania and one – of Ukraine. 

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 14 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, one – of Russia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Armenia, one – of France, one – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Romania, one – of Serbia, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Germany.
