On Sunday, August 31, 60 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 9217 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 15 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 48 offenders at external borders and within the country. 25 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 2 foreigners with documents of other persons were detected

during immigration control at the “Riga” Airport Border Control Point, two citizens of Iran, who presented to border guards Identity Cards of other Spanish citizens, were detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for concealing one’s identity.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 13 foreigners 

at the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the “Riga” Airport Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Belarus, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to four citizens of Belarus, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; to one citizen of Brazil, as the foreigner was prohibited from entering and staying in the territory of the Schengen area countries; to one citizen of Turkey, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Moldova, to two citizens of Russia and one – of Romania due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 8 foreigners

three citizens of Russia, three – of Belarus and one – of Kyrgyzstan were detected at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, were not in possession of valid travel document, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by the citizens of Belarus, was not initiated. The other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons – one citizen of Latvia, one – of Belarus and one – of Estonia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 20 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Belarus, four – of Moldova, three – of Ukraine, two – of Latvia, one - of Lithuania, one – of France, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Poland, one – of Turkey and one – of Germany.
