On Monday, August 18, 110 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 8759 persons have been stopped this year.

A total 15 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 62 offenders at external borders and within the country. 35 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted person – a citizen of Latvia was detained

at the “Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one Latvian citizen entering the country from Great Britain, who is wanted by the police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to four citizens of Uzbekistan, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to one citizen of Belarus and one – of Ukraine, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Russia and one – of Great Britain, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; as well as to one citizen of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 17 foreigners

eight citizens of Russia, four – of Uzbekistan, three – of Tajikistan, one – of Philippine and one – of Moldova were detected at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid travel document, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by eight citizens of Russia, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Tajikistan and one – of Philippine, was not initiated. The other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 citizens of Latvia

at Terehova Border Control Point, one minor citizen of Latvia (female), who did not have a valid travel document and at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one minor citizen of Latvia, departing for Turkey, who did not have the notarized consent of at least one parent for the child's independent departure from the country, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons – one citizens of India, one – of and one – of Sri Lanka.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 24 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Moldova, five - of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Russia, two – of Estonia, two – of Kazakhstan, two – of Uzbekistan, one - of Lithuania, one – of Romania and one – of China.
