On Sunday, April 7, 47 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 974 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, 0 persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 7 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 50 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

20 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

At the Grebņeva Border Control Point, one citizen of Russia leaving the country, who presented to border guards a forged Czech Republic driving licence, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for using forged documents. The forged document was seized within the criminal proceedings.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at Terehova and the Grebņeva Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the preceding 180 days on the territory of the Schengen Member States; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizen of Russia, one – of Ukraine and one – of Moldova due to security reasons. While at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Georgia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 7 foreigners

five citizens of Russia, one – of Moldova and one – of Kazakhstan were detected at the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by three citizens of Russia was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 7 persons -  five citizens of Estonia, one – of Pakistan and one – of Germany.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 23 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – nine citizens of Belarus, five – of Moldova, two – of Latvia, two – of Kirgizstan, one – of Estonia, one – of Georgia, one – of Rumania, one – of Serbia and one - of Tajikistan.
