On Wednesday, April 30, 74 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 2021 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 8 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 57 offenders at external borders and within the country. 31 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki, the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points and the Port of Riga, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Uzbekistan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Great Britain, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Moldova, two - of Russia (one - a seafarer), one – of Ukraine, one – of Belarus and one – of Bulgaria due to security reasons. Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship’s captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port, the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 8 foreigners

three citizens of Uzbekistan, two - of Tajikistan, two – of Kyrgyzstan and one – of Moldova were detected at the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

 

at the Grebņeva Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia, leaving the country for Russia, who was prohibited from leaving the country, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons – two citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia, one – of Somali and one – of Sweden.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 21 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Belarus, four – of Latvia, four – of Serbia, two – of Russia, two – of Kazakhstan, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Lithuania, one – of Israel and one – of Ukraine.
