On Monday, April 21, 70 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1494 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 8 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 50 offenders at external borders and within the country. 17 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

At the Grebņeva Border Control Point, one citizen of Uzbekistan leaving Latvia with heavy good vehicle and trailer, who presented to border guards forged Uzbekistan Roadworthiness Certificate, was detected. The person was held administratively liable. The Roadworthiness Certificate was seized.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 4 foreigners

at the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia and one – of Belarus due to security reasons. While at the Port of Liepaja, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine (a seafarer), as the foreigner has a Schengen entry ban (he is not allowed to enter or stay in the territory of the Schengen area countries). Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship’s captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port, the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 6 foreigners

six citizens of Uzbekistan were detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 11 persons – seven citizens of Lithuania, two – of Belarus and two – of Estonia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Uzbekistan, four - of Belarus, four – of Russia, two – of Latvia, two – of Romania, one – of Lithuania, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Poland and one – of Switzerland.
