On Friday, April 4, State Border Guard officers prevented 37 people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. In total this year 476 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border.

For humanitarian reasons seven people have been admitted this year.

In total, 53 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country, out of whom 27 were detected at the external borders.

• Two wanted persons have been detained

One Latvian citizen departing for London and one Latvian citizen arriving from Istanbul were detected at the border control point of Riga Airport, both are wanted by the police. Both men were detained and handed over to State Police officers.

• Entry into Latvia denied to 12 foreigners

At the border checkpoints of Grebņeva, Terehova and Riga Airport, entry into Latvia was denied to one British citizen because the foreigner did not have a valid travel document, two Uzbek citizens because the foreigners could not justify the purpose and circumstances of entry, and eight more Moldovan and one Russian citizen due to security reasons. The persons have been returned to their countries of departure.

• Violations of residence conditions were found for four foreigners

At the border checkpoints of Terekhova and Riga Airport, three Uzbek citizens and one Russian citizen were found to have violated the residence conditions (no valid visa or residence permit, exceeding the period of residence specified in the visa) in the Schengen area countries. The persons have been held administratively liable.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected for four persons – one Latvian, one Albanian, one Uzbek and one Venezuelan citizen.

For violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels, State Border Guard officials have held 22 persons administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border – four Belarusian, four Moldovan, three Serbian, three Kyrgyz, two Lithuanian, one Latvian, one Russian, one Romanian, one Finnish, one Uzbek and one Chinese citizen.
